Minnesota has been home to some cool movies over the years, and we now know when a new Christmas movie filmed on-location in Minnesota is set to premiere on the Hallmark Channel.

The Land of 10,000 Lakes has been no stranger to movies and TV shows. 90's movies like The Mighty Ducks (which was set here in Minnesota but mainly filmed in Hollywood) and Grumpy Old Men (which was set in Wabasha but was filmed in parts of St. Paul and Lake Rebecca in Rockford, northwest of the Twin Cities) put Minnesota on the map back in the day.

More recently, movies like 'The Christmas Listing' (filmed in the Isanti) and 'Merry Kiss Cam' (filmed in Duluth) have been featured on platforms like Lifetime and Hulu, while the independent movie 'Sold Out' (set in and filmed in the Twin Cities) was debuted in 2021 and is still streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Earlier this year, a new docuseries from Minneapolis-based director Adam Zuehlke is premiered Amazon Prime Video as well. (It's called 'Searching For The Mikinaak' and it was released back in May.)

But now you can get in the holiday spirit when the new Christmas movie, 'Rescuing Christmas' is set to premiere on the Hallmark Channel this December. The movie was filmed on-location in Duluth earlier this spring, with Duluth's Bayfront Park doubling as the town square, along with other familiar settings.

According to IMDB, Minnesota's latest foray into holiday movies will hit screens on the Hallmark Channel on December 7th, and stars Rachael Leigh Cook, Sam Page, Patrick Thomas O’Brien, Bailey Stender, and T. Mychael Rambo.

TV Insider has this preview of what happens in 'Rescuing Christmas':

In a world where Santa (Rambo) is real and wants to drum up some holiday spirit, two of Santa’s elves, Chuck (O’Brien) and Debbie (Stender), devise a plan to grant one human on Earth three wishes to kickstart the holidays. Unfortunately, that human is Erin (Cook), who has lost all affection for the season. Even a blind date set up by her sister, with the affable and charming Sam (Page), won’t change her mind about Christmas.

However, TV Insider continues, "When she makes the mistake of wishing Christmas would “just disappear,” Erin wakes up to a world where the holiday never existed. Horrified, she realizes that she’s taken away everyone’s joy, so she enlists Sam to help her reinvent the festivities from scratch."

Now, while I've not seen the film, I'm going to guess that somehow, Erin and Sam end up together in the end... because it IS a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie, right? You can get more about the Hallmark Channel's 2023 'Countdown to Christmas' line-up here.

And, while Minnesota has been home to numerous movies and TV shows, we've had our fair share of Bold North natives who've gone on to become well-known stars too. Keep scrolling to see how many celebrities once lived here in the Gopher State!
