The Most Expensive Meal at the 2025 Iowa State Fair is $600

A few weeks ago, we got to take a trip to Des Moines to try the top 11 new foods at the 2025 Iowa State Fair. This was NOT one of the foods we got to taste!

2025's Most Expensive Meal

Last year, JR’s SouthPork Ranch made headlines for one of their new Iowa State Fair foods: the Two-Foot Lobster Roll. If you're thinking to yourself, "wow, that doesn't sound cheap," your assumption is correct. It cost $100.

JR’s SouthPork Ranch is, once again, bringing something fancy and expensive to the fair. It's called the High Roller Roll, and here's how the restaurant describes it:

"Straight out of the shores of Maine! Fresh Lobster meat tossed in clarified butter, topped with 3 dollops of crème fraiche and crowned with three heaping spoonfuls of caviar. Then, it's appropriately topped with 24k edible gold and served on a split top bun seared in decadent, gold-dusted duck fat."

The High Roller Roll also costs $100.

BUT, WAIT. THERE'S MORE.

If you want to share the wealth, you can order the High Roller Roll Combo. It contains two High Roller Rolls, and a bottle of Dom Perignon to wash them down. The price tag? Only $600...

We don't know if anyone will opt for the High Roller Roll Combo in 2025, but we DO know that people did splurge on the $100 two-foot lobster roll last year. The Des Moines Register says that JR's SouthPork Ranch estimated that they sold around 30 of them, but mainly for catering. The Register reports:

"After some flack on social media about the cost last year, the restaurant noted that most of the time, a big two-foot lobster roll is ordered for catering. If the Iowa State Fair vendor does not have a dish listed and approved by the fair, they cannot sell it. So the two-foot version is on the menu if people want to get it and split it."
