Sioux Falls Home With 10 People Inside Hit With Gunfire
A Sioux Falls teenager is behind bars after shooting at a Sioux Falls home occupied by 10 people early Tuesday morning.
Dakota News Now reports the shooting occurred around 4:30 AM on Tuesday, (January 2) in front of a mobile home located on the 6300 block of West Grove Place.
The police report states the incident began after the driver of a vehicle involved encountered another car with a group of people inside they were familiar with.
A passenger inside the second vehicle, 18-year-old Sheldon Wayne Stewart of Sioux Falls, pointed a gun in the direction of the driver of the first vehicle, which prompted the driver and his passengers to flee back to their home on West Grove Place for safety.
The second vehicle with Stewart inside pursued the first car back to the home on West Grove Place and began firing shots at the passengers of the first vehicle before they had a chance to enter the home.
The vehicle carrying Stewart left the scene, only to return 15 minutes later. Upon returning Dakota News Now reports, that a series of gunshots were once again fired in the direction of the home on West Grove Place, prompting the residents inside to notify authorities.
Sioux Falls police eventually found the second vehicle outside a home at 11th and Grange and took Stewart into custody.
According to Dakota News Now, Stewart is being charged with several counts of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm at an occupied structure, and abuse or cruelty to a minor.
The car that contained Stewart did have young children inside it at the time of the shooting. However, the driver of that vehicle was not arrested.
Dakota News Now reports that the home on West Grove Place also had several young residents inside at the time of the incident. Multiple teenagers between the ages of 15 to 17 years old. There was also a 2-year-old girl, an 11-year-old girl, a 20-year-old male, and a 36-year-old woman inside.
