Veterans Day Is Coming: Here’s How the Sioux Empire Will Say Thank You
Honoring Our Heroes
Most of us know someone who has served in the military. It might be a parent, grandparent, sibling, friend, neighbor, or coworker. Veterans Day is more than just another date on the calendar. It's a time to pause, reflect, and recognize the men and women who have worn our nation's uniform, answered the call to serve, and made sacrifices to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Here in the Sioux Empire, there are a couple of events, one on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, and one the next evening, Thursday, November 12, that make sure those who served know that their sacrifices have not been forgotten, and honor those currently serving.
Veterans Day Program Details
The Alliance at 1600 West Russell Avenue is the location for the Sioux Falls Veterans Day program. It is being hosted by the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce’s Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, in partnership with local veterans’ organizations.
Doors will open at 10 AM, and the program begins at 10:30 with a mass colors presentation of flags from various military, veterans, and service and civic club organizations in Sioux Falls, plus the Singing Legionnaires will once again be performing patriotic musical favorites.
A Night to Remember: Meet Colonel Campbell
On Thursday evening, November 12, from 6:30 to 10 PM, the South Dakota Military Alliance is presenting "A Night With Heroes", featuring retired Air Force Colonel Kim “KC” Campbell, an A-10 Warthog fighter pilot who logged more than 1,800 flight hours and completed more than 100 combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
She was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for Heroism after her aircraft sustained catastrophic anti-aircraft damage while flying close air support for frontline troops in 2003. Although her aircraft lost all hydraulic controls over Baghdad, she successfully piloted it manually for an hour back to safety. The plane never flew again, but she was up the next day supporting a search and rescue mission for a downed pilot near Baghdad.
You'll be able to listen to Colonel Campbell's story and if you'd like, also buy a copy of her book, Flying in the Face of Fear.
Tickets are available online now and also at the door. For more information, you can call The Alliance at 605-271-1582.
