Get Ready For Navy Week Celebrations In Sioux Falls
Even though South Dakota is far from any ocean, the Navy is bringing its story to Sioux Falls during Navy Week, August 4 through the 10, 2025. This is the first time the event has been held here since 2019, and it also celebrates the Navy’s 250th birthday.
During the week, 50 to 75 Sailors will visit our city, including Navy leaders, bands, and even a Sioux Falls native, Rear Adm. Michael Wosje. They’ll share their experiences, answer questions, and take part in fun community events.

The activities begin at the Sioux Empire Fair, where visitors can meet Sailors and see Navy displays like "The Strike Group". On August 6, the Navy will be a part of Discover Aviation Day at Maverick Air Center, with flight demos and hands-on STEM activities.
Also, next week, the Sioux Falls Canaries will hold a Navy Recognition Night at their game on August 7. On Friday, August 8, the Navy Band Great Lakes will perform a free concert at Levitt at the Falls.
Saturday, August 9, at 10 AM, there will be a special ceremony at the Battleship South Dakota memorial at West 12th and Kiwanis featuring Senator John Thune, Navy Rear Admiral Wosje (an O'Gorman alumnus), and a performance by the Navy band "Brass Ambassadors".

Navy Week shows that you don’t have to live near the sea to be proud of America’s sailors. These events give people a chance to meet those who serve and learn about the Navy’s mission. Sioux Falls is ready to welcome them and celebrate this special milestone.
