Should Candy Be Tossed To Kids At Sioux Falls Parades…Again?
There was a time in South Dakota when candy was tossed off floats to kids at almost all city parades. But then that stopped because some thought it was too dangerous.
It used to be a tradition in Sioux Falls to toss Smarties, Jolly Ranchers, Tootsie Rolls, Laffy Taffy, and more from parade floats to excited kids.
Then back in 1996, Sioux Falls banned the handing out of candy and the 4th of July Parade, St. Patrick's Parade, Holiday Parade of Lights, and other downtown parades.
The ban was imposed due to safety concerns.
But now Sioux Falls Councilwoman Sarah Cole has raised the topic of removing the ban so once again candy and trinkets can be given out to children at parades.
Dakota News Now is reporting that the Sioux Falls City Council voted on Tuesday to advance a proposal to repeal the ban on giving out candy and balloons during parades.
It now moves for final approval on May 7.
