Last Comic Standing (Sioux Falls Edition) This Friday!

When you think of Last Comic Standing, do you think of numerous comedians engaging in a battle of the gut-busters? Well, you should because that is exactly what is going to be going on.

This Friday, April 14 at The District, nine local comedians will take the stage and one after another use their best comedy chops to get us all to laugh out loud!

These are the talented comics entertaining on Friday night:

Not only will there be great live comedy all night, but the evening begins with live music from Blake Rave & the Unmentionables from 7 to 8 PM.

Throughout the evening there will be a cash bar and $1 from each beverage purchased will go to the Junior League. The Junior League has been working in Sioux Falls for 40 years, providing training to young women in the areas of leadership, volunteerism, community program work and so much more.

They work as advocates for women, children, and the elderly to make sure they have the services they need to lead healthy lives, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

JLSF (Junior League Sioux Falls) also "promotes environmental awareness and encourages, through education, advocacy, and action, responsibility in the attainment of a safer, cleaner, and healthier environment".

You're helping to accomplish all of that just by showing up at The District this Friday night, April 14, and laughing your face off!

Flashback 1992: Inside Sioux Falls Old Washington High School

The modern marvel that is YouTube never ceases to amaze me. Sure, there's plenty of garbage there, but you can also find some gems.

Like this video from 1992. It's a sort of video time capsule of the old Washington High School in Sioux Falls. If you came to The Queen City in the last couple of decades, you may only know the building downtown as the Washington Pavilion, a center of Sioux Falls arts and culture.

Before it was the Pavilion, the corner of Main Avenue and 11th Street in Sioux Falls was home to many of the city's schools for most of the 20th century.

Built on the site of the former Central School, WHS's first class of 328 students started in 1908. It was the only high school in Sioux Falls until Lincoln High was completed in 1965.

The class of 1992 was the last class of Sioux Falls to graduate from the old Washington High. That fall the new WHS, constructed on N. Sycamore Ave on the east side of the city, took over the name and educational mission.
