Christmas Wreath Laying At Veteran's Cemetery in Sioux Falls

Wreaths Across America has been a non-profit organization since 2007 and the tradition of wreath laying on Veteran's tombstones has been around even longer. In 1992, when a Maine man's wreath company was left with extra wreaths at the close of the holiday season he donated them to this cause.Those 5,000 wreaths were laid on veterans' graves at Arlington National Cemetery that year and the movement has grown to a national event.Today more than 2,500 locations participate in laying the wreaths out of remembrance and respect for our nation's brave servicemen and women.

The South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs, in partnership with
the Midwest Honor Flight and Wreaths Across America, will host a wreath-laying
ceremony on Saturday, December 16. The ceremony will be held at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery Committal Shelter (25965 477th Avenue) starting at 11:00 AM in Sioux Falls.

Midwest Honor Flight and their partners are providing the wreaths for our heroes.
Immediately following the 30-minute program, guests will be encouraged to assist in placing wreaths at all veterans’ graves.

This year, we will be laying over 350 wreaths.” said South Dakota Veterans Cemetery Director Erin Brown. “The generous support of Midwest Honor Flight and their partners ensures that we will be able to fulfill our mission in remembrance of these brave men and women laid to rest in South Dakota.”
