Brandon Valley Journal Could Really Use Your Help
Jill Meier, owner and editor of the Brandon Valley Journal, has launched a GoFundMe campaign in a heartfelt effort to save her small-town newspaper.
"I never thought I would be one to ask for your support in this format, but I am turning to you, my friends, family, and community to help keep us afloat," Meier shared on Facebook.
BRANDON VALLEY JOURNAL GOFUNDME
The Brandon Valley Journal was born from hardship. After 13 years as editor of the Brandon Valley Challenger, Meier lost her position in October 2016 during an emotionally devastating week that also included the sudden loss of a dear friend.
Rather than give up, she turned heartbreak into hope, launching the BV Journal on August 2, 2017.
The journey hasn't been easy. Rising printing, postage, and payroll costs have strained the budget year after year, and advertising revenue has become increasingly difficult to secure.
Meier and her staff have gone three years without a raise. She has drained her savings, skipped paychecks, and given everything she has to keep the paper going.
Meier's roots in the community run deep. She has served on the Brandon Community Foundation and the Chamber's special events committee for decades, and has donated countless hours to local causes...all because she genuinely loves Brandon, Valley Springs, and the schools that define this community.
