The diverging diamond interchange project in Sioux Falls is beginning to take shape. In the pics below you can see how the roads will eventually crisscross before the bridge.

It will be strange to drive in the opposite lane at first, but the efficiency and safety provided by an interchange like this will be worth it.

According to the latest update from the City, crews are modifying the on and off-ramps and working on 41st Street from the interstate to Shirley Ave.

  • Reconstruction of the Interstate 29 southbound on-ramp at Exit 77 will begin on Monday, May 15, 2023. This work is expected to last up to two months.
  • All water main installation has been completed.
  • Grading work will begin east of Interstate 29 on Monday, May 22, 2023.
  • Storm sewer installation will continue.

The good news is that 41st Street from Shirley Ave to the I-29 bridge was already 3 lanes wide which wasn't the case on the west side of the bridge. Work on the bridge looks like it's going nicely. Hopefully, the weather will allow crews will be able to open the interchange on schedule in November.
