It's been a few years in the making but the new 42-acre Public Safety Campus is now open in the north part of Sioux Falls. The $55 million facility will be an all-in-one training and operations facility for police and fire rescue.

Several buildings were constructed to mimic structures that would be seen on Phillips Ave. To be as authentic as possible, there are planters and parking meters to simulate the same obstacles that rescue crews would face in a building fire in the downtown area. A Victorian-style home is also on the property similar to the kind of homes that would be found in the core of Sioux Falls.

There is a large state-of-the-art 15-lane firearm range and a 13-acre emergency vehicle training course. The Emergency Operations Center with 911 emergency communications and Metro Communications dispatch will originate from the property.

In a nod to fallen Sioux Falls police and fire rescue personnel, four streets on the campus will be named after four men who lost their lives in the line of duty. They are:

  • Fire Captain Charles E. Larson
  • Fire Apparatus Operator Thomas Masters
  • Police Captain George A. Saville
  • Police Night Captain Edward Pike

Click on this great article from Pigeon 605 that goes into more detail about these fallen heroes and their stories.

Carsen Bower has a great drone video of the newly completed campus. Check it out below.
