Almost A Year Later, Sioux Falls Pet Owner Reunited With Lost Cat
Just when all hope seemed lost, a South Dakota family is together at long last.
Thanks to the efforts of the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society, a local family has been reunited with their beloved family cat. Oh, happy days!

Earlier this year, a severely matted stray cat named Molly was found at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. The staff brought Molly in without hesitation. They helped her get comfortable and scanned her for a microchip, hoping it could lead to some answers about where she came from. Thankfully, the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society found a microchip...a lifeline.
This discovery led them to a name, phone number, and a family who never stopped looking for their girl.
How Long Was Molly Missing in the Sioux Empire?
Molly's family had been searching for her for nearly a year after she escaped from home. As months passed, Molly was nowhere to be found. Her family kept hope that she was still out there.
The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society shared Molly's story and the moment when she was returned to her family in a heartwarming Facebook post.
Holding onto hope and crying many tears was worth it after seeing Molly and holding her once again.
When her owner came, there was no hesitation. The moment she saw her, she knew. Miss Molly was unmistakably hers. And just like that, a year of heartbreak turned into a moment of pure relief and joy. This reunion would not have been possible without a microchip.Collars fall off. Tags fade. But a microchip is permanent. It’s a simple step that can turn a “what if” into a “welcome home.”
This happy reunion would not have been possible without Molly's microchip that staff found. Microchips can save the heartbreak for many families. It gives pets a chance to find their way back home.
Sioux Falls Area Humane Society does offer microchipping services at the shelter. Find all the details here.
Welcome home, Molly! Your family has been waiting a long time to see you.
