Tess Rule of Buffalo Commits to Black Hills State for Hoops

Buffalo senior Tess Rule will continue her basketball career at the next level after recently signing at Black Hills State University.

Rule was an all-state selection after the 2022-23 season and has been a two-time all-conference pick in her prep career. She is preparing for her senior season at BHS.

As a junior, Rule helped the Bison to a record of 21-5, a runner-up finish at the 3A state basketball tournament, and a 3A East Regional championship last season. She averaged 8.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and a team-best 2.7 assists and 2.9 steals per game. Rule ranked in the top 10 of Class 3A in both assists and steals per game. She shot 40.5 percent from the field and led Buffalo at 32 percent beyond the arc. Rule scored a career-high 20 points in the state championship game loss versus Douglas.

In her sophomore season, Rule averaged 6.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for Buffalo. She led the team in assists and steals with 70 and 71, respectively. That was an average of 2.8 per game in both statistical categories. Rule helped the Bison to the 16-10 record and a third-place finish at the 3A state basketball tournament in 2022.

As a freshman in the 2020-21 season, Rule averaged 7.3 points, and team-highs of 6.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.6 steals per game.

Rule also played volleyball at Buffalo High School.

Black Hills State University competes at the NCAA Division II level. They are a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The school is in Spearfish, SD.
