The Iowa State Cyclones basketball team got a real boost on Friday when star point guard Monte Morris decided that he would return for his senior season in Ames.

According to the Gazette, Morris said, “I think my decision was just weighing on how I felt in my heart, my heart just said to stay here one more year and try to get things done.”

Most mock drafts have Morris as a second rounder even though I think he is one of the best point guards in this years class.

He averaged 13.9 points, 6.9 assists and 4 rebounds per game last year.

The decision to go back for Morris can certainly deliver a lot of benefits though.

He can get bigger, faster, stronger in another year in Ames.

He will be able to graduate from Iowa State and complete his education.

And maybe most importantly to the Iowa State basketball program is the fact that they will retain a player in a year where they lose enough already and by keeping Morris it only makes the Cyclones more deadly next year.
