‘Ghostbusters’ Is Getting Re-Released for 30th Anniversary
The biggest problem with the concept of 'Ghostbusters 3' is the fact that 'Ghostbusters' still very much exists and is pretty much perfect. This fact will be reconfirmed when the original is re-released later this summer as part of the film's 30th anniversary celebration, which will also include a new Blu-ray release.
EW reports that 'Ghostbusters' will screen in 700 theaters starting on August 29, giving countless fans the chance to experience this film as it should be experienced -- with a crowd. Unlike so many modern comedies, 'Ghostbusters' is actually shot with real style, making it the rare movie that makes you laugh while you admire how well constructed it really is.
If you miss it in theaters, you'll still be able to pick up the 30th anniversary special edition Blu-ray set, which will include the still-controversial 'Ghostbusters 2.' This is a no brainer for big fans and completionists. The sequel hasn't been available in high definition before this, so now you can argue whether or not it lives up to the standards set by the first film in crisp, clean 1080p. The set will also include a bunch of new special features (deleted scenes and interviews and what-not), but most importantly, it comes with a Slimer bust that is so much better than a weird blue Jamie Foxx head.
Although the word on the street is that physical media is dying a quick death, we'd be fools not to pick up this set ... and we'd be bigger fools to skip seeing one of the best films of the '80s on the big screen.
