When Minnesota anglers prepare for each fishing season the one thing everyone has in common is a fishing license. The license fees support fish and wildlife conservation in the state and walleye for stocking in Minnesota lakes.

Also, every year many artists cast their best to be awarded the wildlife habitat stamp winner. There are five stamps: trout and salmon, waterfowl, pheasant, walleye, and turkey.

Recently announced, the winner of the 2023 Walleye stamp is Melissa Mickelson from Minneapolis. The Trout & Salmon stamp was awarded to Bradley Hadrava from Bemidji.

Revenue from trout/salmon stamps (required for anglers aged 18-64 fishing in designated trout water or possessing trout) is dedicated to trout/salmon management & habitat work.     Fish and wildlife stamps can be purchased in combination with a hunting or fishing license. As any true philatelist knows, the stamps are yearly collectibles.

Those who fish Minnesota lakes should take note that beginning September 1 on Mille Lacs Lake walleye anglers will see a relaxed harvest slot. Anglers will be able to harvest one walleye 20-23 inches or one longer than 26 inches, with fishing allowed from 6:00 AM to Midnight.
