As cities across America continue to grow, there is one unintended consequence - the need for more and more street names.

Numbers only go so far, which means having to get more and more creative with what to call that next street, lane, boulevard, place, drive, or circle.

There are some food ones out there, and recently Reader's Digest ran them down on a list of 'The Funniest Street Names in Every State'.

South Dakota: Kno Place

'If you ask us, there’s no place like Kno Place in Rapid City, South Dakota, just outside Black Hills National Forest. In fact, it’s the ideal location for spy headquarters: If someone asks where you’re going, you can respond honestly and say Kno Place.'

Iowa: Burr Oak Court

'This one’s for all the word-obsessed folks out there (ourselves included, of course). When you say Burr Oak fast, it sounds like “broke.” So the answer to the question “What street do you live on?” ends up sounding something like “broke,” which you very well might be after forking over a hefty downpayment on a new home. On the other hand, “Burr Oak” also kind of sounds like “baroque”—but probably only to fans of 17th- and 18th-century music and design. Burr Oak Court is located in Iowa City, off of Kennedy Parkway.'

Minnesota: Pig’s Eye Lake Road

'Pig’s Eye is a nod to a Canadian fur trader named Pierre “Pig’s Eye” Parrant. According to one description, he had “one eye, unequally matched to its distant yoke mate, and precisely the shape of a pig’s eye,” and he is said to have lived in St. Paul, Minnesota, on and off from 1829 to 1844. Though Parrant is often described as the first European settler of this Midwest city, that’s actually a myth—and besides, local Indigenous people lived in the area long before anyone from Europe. As amusing as the name Pig’s Eye Lake Road is, it’s one you’ll want to take: It leads you to the picturesque Pig’s Eye Lake Park, St. Paul’s largest park, consisting of 404 acres of land situated around a roughly 500-acre lake.'

9 Sioux Falls Streets Visitors Have A Hard Time Pronouncing

If you are visiting or new to Sioux Falls and trying to find your way around, chances are you really don't need to pronounce street names correctly. All you have to do is enter your destination into Google Maps and your phone will show you the way.

But what if you are trying to tell someone where your cool friend or family member lives in our fine city? Some of our streets and avenues have tricky spellings that may throw visitors for a loop when trying to sound them out.

No one is going to mess up on the big thoroughfares like Minnesota Avenue, Western Avenue, or Louise Avenue but what about these?

See How East 10th Street in Sioux Falls Has Changed

It's really interesting using Google Streetview to compare the changes from the earliest pictures to the latest.

For Sioux Falls, the earliest views are from 2008 and the latest from early 2022.

Some of the looks aren't the clearest, but it still gives a real good look at how dynamic the east side of Sioux Falls is.

See Inside the Sioux Falls 'Castle on 22nd Street'

I don't know when I first saw the home, nor do I remember when I started lovingly referring to it as the "Castle on 22nd Street." I only know that I did and have referred to that Sioux Falls house as such for about 20 years now.
