The late wet season conditions have led to many frustrations for area farmers trying to pull their crops out of the fields. For those who were not flooded out, the delays continue to mount.

As KSFY TV reports, many farmers are just now beginning their harvest. In the report the National Agricultural Statistics Service, South Dakota farmers have harvested only 27% of corn so far, compare that to the average of 66% complete.

Some farmers were only able to plant half their crops. KSFY states that South Dakota had four million acres of crops unplanted, which was more than any other state.

As corn is delivered to elevators to be sold farmers are seeing lower prices due to the high moisture content.

Farmers in South Dakota are built tough. They have to be to endure unpredictable conditions.

So the next time you see a farmer, say thanks.
