Remember that old song from the Power Station, "Some Like it Hot?" Hopefully, you're one of those people, because hot, it's gonna be through the middle of next week!

All the great music being performed won't be the only thing heating up JazzFest at Yankton Trail Park this weekend. Mother Nature has a few plans of her own.

Our friend Brandon Spinner over KDLT News is reporting the extreme heat will have a grip on the Sioux Empire through at least Wednesday (July 19).

His forecast calls for the low to mid 90s for most of us here in the eastern half of the state, while those closer to the Missouri River in South Dakota can expect to reach the 100s once again.

Brandon says don't expect Mother Nature to turn down the thermostat from there. The Climate Prediction Center has the hot stuff continuing into the extended forecast. The 6 to 10 day outlook, which covers (July 18-22), will bring us a 60% chance of seeing above average warmth, according to KDLT News. The average high temps for next week range from the mid-80s in southeast South Dakota to the low 90s for those in central South Dakota.

Brandon says we can expect temps to be at or just above those marks, if not even a little warmer than that through most of next week. While being very hot, he also says don't expect record breaking temperatures. All of the forecasted temperatures look to be below the record for those individual days.

This kind of heat is something everyone needs to take very serious. If you plan on heading out to JazzFest this weekend or plan on being outside for an extended period, remember to stay hydrated. That means drinking lots of water and going easy on the alcohol. It's also a good idea to wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing to help stay as cool as possible.

Extreme heat like we're about to have can quickly lead to heat-related illness. So have fun, just be smart about it.
