Eggnog, Eggnog, Who Brought The Eggnog?
As a kid, I remember wondering, why in the world would anyone drink something with an EGG in the name. Like Eggnog. You know the holiday concoction carefully constructed with cream, sugar, raw eggs, spices and of course alcoholic spirits! That same flashback to my youth got me wondering... if you like eggnog this time of year, what's your favorite booze to load it up with?
Brandy, was a fine girl, [Looking Glass] and Brandy the booze, is also the most traditional add-in for eggnog. The experts recommend a mix of dark rum and Cognac, whatever that is. I personally avoid any alcohol spelled with a 'G' that you don't pronounce.
So, Brandy, it is! I have heard a rumor though that Jack Daniels works, bourbon will fly in a pinch and Rum will float the boat if you find yourself booze-less, with some 'batter' looking to be battered sitting in front of you this holiday season.
Coastal Living recommends a mix of 1 part spirit to 5 parts prepared eggnog. I say, mix to 'taste' and don't be afraid to burn one or two before you settle in.
Remember, you’re using these spirits as mixers—there’s no need to pull out your priciest bottles, unless you really want to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. Bottles recommends using dark rums like The Real McCoy 5 Year, Privateer Amber, or Ed Hamilton 86 Proof.
Remember to enjoy responsibly, and Merry Christmas, you Eggnogger's you!
