Sioux Falls residents can expect the streets surrounding the Copper Lounge building that collapsed on Friday (December 2) in downtown to be closed for the foreseeable future.

East 10th Street will remain closed from 2nd Street to Main Street. In addition, Phillips Avenue will remain closed from 9th Street to 11th Street.

The street closures are necessary to ensure public safety as the remaining at-risk structure can be safely removed.

The Sioux Falls Argus Leader is reporting that a hole opened in the exterior wall of the Pave Building on Sunday, December 4, two days after the collapse of the Copper Lounge structure. Pave will remain closed until further notice due to the structural concerns.

KDLT TV is also reporting that the remainder of the collapsed Copper Lounge building will be demolished and removed. That in turn, will likely affect traffic in the area for some time.

Residents planning on driving in the downtown area near the collapse are asked to use 8th Street or 14th Street. Access will be maintained from 10th Street to the lower level of the Block 11 public parking ramp only. The city says River Blvd. can be used to access the Mall Avenue public parking surface lot.

People wishing to ride Sioux Area Metro buses in the area should know they are running from the downtown depot.
