As the years pass since the attack on September 11, 2001, I appreciate how people are marking the day with not only remembering, but by paying it forward.

When the story came to us of a woman  who went to a Police Department just to hug an officer, I thought it would be a great thing to do here in Sioux Falls.  Officer Josh Herman was at the desk when I arrived with 4 dozen cookies and my gratitude.

There are so many times we likely take for granted the safety we have daily because of the Police, firefighters and other responding staff ready to help if we call 911.  The next time you see an officer, take a moment to thank them for making our streets safer and our lives better.  It doesn't have to be on 9/11.  Any day is the perfect day to show your gratitude.
