Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the stuff legends are made of.

But just how much of what you've heard about one of the most famous albums ever made is fact and which is merely legend?

The Beatles' eighth studio album, released 50 years ago this summer, is the latest Fab Four offering to be examined in the four-part series Deconstructing The Beatles.

The 95-minute film takes an in depth look at Sgt. Pepper from multiple angles, exploring the history behind the music, including the events in the band's career that provided the backdrop for one of rock's most influential works.

Remember, Sgt. Pepper was the Beatles' first album released after the band stopped touring in August 1966. That meant that for the first time, John, Paul, George, and Ringo had a full six months of time in the studio to experiment and innovate. Uninterrupted by the rigors of playing shows around the world, they focused all of their energy on  making this new record, under the alter ego created by Paul McCartney.

The movie is hosted by Scott Freiman, the mastermind behind Deconstructing The Beatles, a project devoted to an in depth examination of the intricacies of the music of the world's most influential band. Freiman, who holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Music from Yale University and a Masters of Music Composition from New York University, has presented lectures to sold-out audiences at theaters nationwide and has spoken about the Beatles at colleges, universities, and corporations, like Pixar, Google, and Facebook.

In the Fall of 2012, he taught a semester-long course, The Beatles In The Studio, at Yale. Freiman’s insights into the music of The Beatles can be found in the book All the Songs: The Story Behind Every Beatles Release, published in October 2013 by Black Dog and Leventhal.

In Deconstructing Sgt. Pepper, Freiman takes the audience on an educational journey into the creative process of The Beatles' performances and recording sessions.

The film is being shown in Sioux Falls for one night only - Tuesday, March 14 - at the Icon Lounge at 7:00 PM. Local film group Cinema Falls is sponsoring the event.

The doors open at 6:00 PM. Tickets are $12 (plus $1.65 ticket fee) in advance, $15 at the door. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Deconstructing The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper is the second film in the four-part series, with other films in the works on Revolver, and Rubber Soul. The first film in the series, Deconstructing The Beatles’ White Album, was shown in Sioux Falls last November.
