Can’t Wait for Bill Murray’s Christmas Special? Me Neither!
I know the last thing a lot of people want to hear about right now is Christmas- "anything", but that doesn't stop me because I am a bona-fide Christmas-a-holic, a holiday fiend of the first order, a fanatic who starts thinking about the upcoming holiday season the minute summer ends! In fact, year-round, Christmas is always close in my thoughts.
Even I am not sure why it is so dear to me, considering that my childhood history with the iconic time of year was almost without exception, disastrous. My dad, (who was most likely bi-polar) was a deeply troubled, abusive person who quite often turned our Christmas holidays into living nightmares. But I digress, again.
Now I'm not talking about Scrooged, although in our world that classic Bill Murray holiday film is an absolute tradition. Ben, his family and I get together nearly every year for dinner and Scrooged. We laugh, repeat the lines to each other and thoroughly enjoy a shared mirthful custom we created.
This year Mr. Murray is back in the holiday spirit with his "A Very Murray Christmas", which will only be shown (unfortunately) on Netflix. This festive film event was co-written by Murray, Sofia Coppola, (the director of his Oscar-nominated Lost in Translation) Mitch Glazer, (a co-writer of Scrooged and co-producer of Lost in Translation) and will be directed by Coppola.
The official synopsis from Netflix:
'A Very Murray Christmas' is an homage to the classic variety show featuring Bill Murray playing himself, as he worries no one will show up to his TV show due to a terrible snow storm in New York City. Through luck and perseverance, guests arrive at the Carlyle hotel to help him; dancing and singing in holiday spirit."
His guest star list is impressive and eclectic, to say the least. George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Paul Shaffer, David Johansen (remember Buster Poindexter, who also starred in Scrooged, as did Paul Shaffer), Chris Rock and- -Miley Cyrus, (to name a very few) are all guesting in this special!
"A Very Murray Christmas" premieres December 4th. I for one am so looking forward to it and will be glued to whatever device I can watch it on! Here is a sneak peak at the promo running for it:
