It's quickly become one of the most popular features on B102.7. The White Wall Sessions Radio Show, which airs Sunday nights from 7pm-8pm and features local and regional musicians playing original music and telling stories about themselves and their songs. We asked Sioux Falls photographer Rob Specht of Wandering Skunk Photography to sit in on a recording session with Mat D. and the Profane Saints from Sioux City, Iowa recently and give everyone a glimpse behind the White Wall. Here's what Specht had to say:

The lights grow bright. The cameras are rolling and guitar amps are humming with the buzz of electricity.  Another episode of the White Wall Sessions is about to be recorded.  Many of you may have seen and heard the result of this process.  The White Wall Sessions airs at 10:30pm Saturday nights on KELO-TV and is one of the most popular shows in its time slot, but most haven't had a chance to see what happens behind the cameras in order to produce this show and the radio show that airs Sunday nights on B102.7.

Co-Creator and Director Jeff Zueger orchestrates a large group of volunteers who help to produce the show, all as a labor of love to the local and regional music scene.

Zueger is aided by a talented group of individuals like Dave Palmer, who functions as Co-Creator and Director of Broadcast.  Dave can be found behind the camera as well as be seen running around the set, solving any last minute problems that arise.  Pat Gayken mans the mixing board as Head Recording Engineer, ensuring that the full range of sounds produced by the diverse group of artists who have appeared on the show are captured in all their glory.  [Pat Gayken (left), Dave Palmer (right)]

Steve Zastrow, Host of the show and often times a camera operator, spends time before the filming researching and getting to know the musical acts that will be appearing in upcoming episodes.  It's his voice you'll often hear introducing and interviewing the bands during the show.  Steve brings a strong musical background to the show and always has very insightful comments to add. A whole host of others pitch in, from those helping with lighting, microphones, and cameras, to the one manning the clapper board (think "Scene 1, Take 2" used to help combine the audio and video together in post-production).

Mat d and the Profane Saints were shooting the night Specht was there and you can look for them on Season 2 of the White Wall. Meanwhile, an acoustic night that Mat and Kurt Mullins recorded at a previous session will be featured this Sunday (May 4) on the Radio Show.

When it all comes together, the result is a wonderfully shot, magical sounding production that highlights some of the best local and regional artists around.  The show airs Saturday nights on KELO TV (CBS) at 10:30pm.  The White Wall Sessions Radio Show airs every Sunday night on B102.7 from 7-8pm!

Tune in and turn up the volume!
