I live across the street from the Sanford Children's Castle. The vibrant blue glow from its lighting has always conveyed an aura of hope to me. That is probably because for two days every spring, we immerse ourselves in the lives of children being treated for cancer at that very hospital.

Hope is an essential component of that experience and it is also an organic ingredient of the holiday season. So a combination of the two into one joyful event, is a natural and all of us are invited.

Christmas at the Castle, presented by Henry Carlson Construction and hosted by Sanford Children's Miracle Network, is happening on Tuesday, December 3, from 6 to 7 PM right in front of the Children's Castle (1600 W. 22nd).

There will be the official lighting of the Christmas tree, with lots of photo opportunities with superheroes and princesses who'll be joining the fun. Merchandise and ornaments will be available for purchase. Holiday treats and hot cocoa will be available for a free-will donation.

This event is a perfect opportunity to remind yourself and your family about the reason for the season. It is also a chance to offer up a prayer for the children and families spending hours, days, weeks and months in that castle battling a number of devastating illnesses.
