Velvet Underground, Rush Featured on ‘Lords of Salem’ Sdtrk
The Velvet Underground and Rush — as disparate classic rock bands as you can find – will nonetheless soon find themselves on the same album. Both groups will be featured on the soundtrack to ‘The Lords of Salem,’ a new film by Rob Zombie.
Blabbermouth is reporting that the CD, which will be released April 16, mostly features the score, composed by Zombie’s guitarist John 5. However, there is room among the new music for some familiar tunes. ‘Venus in Furs’ and ‘All Tomorrow’s Parties,’ both of which appear on the VU’s groundbreaking 1967 debut (as well as our list of the Top 10 Velvet Underground Songs), are included. Rush contribute ‘The Spirit of Radio,’ which reached No. 13 on the U.K. singles chart in 1980.
The soundtrack also contains Manfred Mann’s ‘Blinded by the Light,’ which was No. 74 on our list of the Top 100 Classic Rock Songs, and the only Bruce Springsteen-penned song to hit No. 1. And for reasons that will only seem apparent in the movie’s final cut, Rick James’ smash hit from 1981, ‘Give It To Me Baby.’ is featured on the soundtrack.
According to IMDB, the ‘The Lords of Salem’ is about a DJ (played by Zombie’s wife, Sheri Moon Zombie) who receives a record. As she plays the album, it triggers memories from the dark past of her town, Salem, Mass., the home of the famous witch trials from 1692 and 1693. It will be released in theaters April 19.
