‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ Sequel
'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' did wonders for Gary Oldman back in 2011. Although 'The Dark Knight Rises' gave him ample footing to take on the upcoming 'RoboCop' remake, the Tomas Alfredson-directed spy flick gave him his first ever Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Plus, it raked in some big box office numbers for the year. So talk of a sequel is only natural, but do we really need one?
While updates on a 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' sequel has been quiet for the most part, producer Eric Fellner has confirmed work is progressing "as we speak" on the next installment. But where might the story go?
Speaking with Collider, Fellner stated, "We are working on another one. [Producer] Tim Bevan is putting it together as we speak with [screenwriter] Peter Straughan and Tomas Alfredson, so yes it’s in development. ... ['Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'] did unbelievably well and it didn’t cost hardly anything…But things take time. Tim is passionate about making sure we do another one.”
Gary Oldman actually revealed back when that 'Smiley's People' -- the third and final novel in John le Carre's 'Karla Trilogy,' of which 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is the first -- was being considered for a movie follow-up. That story brings the actor's character out of retirement.
What do you think? Fellner stated that everyone on the team is really excited to see a sequel to 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,' but are you? Let us know in the comments and give us your theories for where the story might go.
