Digital Amnesia. Yup, this is the name which has been given to the phenomena of not being able to remember anyone's phone number anymore. Or address, or pin number, password, account name, and the list goes on and on. But as long as you have your digital device, you don't have to.

They explain it in this way, by not recalling memories, eventually that memory will be lost to you. (Use it or lose it!) Your brain also will overwrite information that you don't use with more pertinent and topical facts and memories. This also explains why someone who took Spanish for almost 8 years can barely remember the word for library (biblioteca) anymore! But I digress.

Kaspersky Lab, an international software security group based in Moscow, (believe it or not) did an international study on the effects of digital devices on the way people recall or retrieve information, how they use the devices and what they are doing to protect them and their personal information.

In their survey of Americans, 91%  admitted being extremely dependent on the Internet and their devices for remembering things that used to be, (pardon the expression) a no-brainer- -like your best friend's phone number or an address. This study also revealed that 51% of us would be extremely stressed if all that data we treasure would be lost and yet we do very little to protect it.

All it takes is losing your smartphone or having your computer bite the dirt, (very familiar with that one!) for all that data to vanish forever!

Take this Digital Amnesia quiz and find out just how much of a Digital amnesiac you are.
