These South Dakota, Minnesota School Districts among Best in U.S.

It'll be a few weeks before students receive their first-semester report cards, but the grades are already in for school districts around the country and a pair of local districts are on an exclusive honor roll.

24/7 Wall St, using data from Niche, has identified the 50 Best School Districts in America.

The districts were ranked on things like standardized test results, graduation rates, student-teacher ratios, extracurricular clubs and sports teams, and parent and student surveys.

Minnesota's Wayzata Public Schools in Plymouth are 46th overall in America.

The district (12,018 students) has a student-teacher ratio of 18:1 and an average graduation rate of 97 percent.

Students in the district were 78 percent proficient in reading and 75 percent in math. They scored an average of 30 on the ACT and 1400 on the SAT tests.

The annual district spending is $20,282 per pupil.

One spot behind Wazata is South Dakota's South Central School District in Bonesteel, at number 47.

The district (75 students) has a student-teacher ratio of 11:1 and was ranked as the number-one place to teach in the Mount Rushmore State.

Across the country, the vast majority of school districts on the list are either in the Midwest or the Northeast. These include 13 districts in Illinois and nine in New York state.
