On my way out the door this morning I thought to myself, worms are going to die today, and I'm going to kill them. Part of me must have been thinking about the Kevin Costner Movie Open Range (watch at 1:20 on the ideo) as I headed out for a run with our black lab Molly. The other part of me was just glad that spring is finally showing it's hand.

Ok, let's learn something here. According to Wikipedia,

"Earthworm" is the common name for the largest members of Oligochaeta (which is either a class or a subclass depending on the author). In classical systems, they were placed in the order Opisthopora, on the basis of the male pores opening posterior to the female pores, though the internal male segments are anterior to the female.

The earth worms were on the move this morning. Tuesday brought us a nice shower and the warmer weather Wednesday showed us the worms. It was impossible to walk or run without taking out several of them at one time.

It's amazing what you see when you go for a walk with your dog, or take the time to look. Worms everywhere. Ducks and geese too. And if you sleep with the window cracked open we're starting to get woke up by birds.

It's been a long winter. Not a hard winter, but a long winter. It's kind of nice to see the seasons really starting to change. Now, about those worms I took out this morning!
