Along with the rebuilding of many homes and businesses, the town of Wessington Springs, South Dakota will now be rebuilding their landscape. Thanks to advice given from the South Dakota Department of Agriculture, the town affected by a tornado on June 18, 2014, will soon be adding and replacing trees lost during the storms.

A federal grant of $10,000 from the Resource Conservation and Forestry Division will be used to fund the replanting of the trees destroyed in communities from the June storms.

The division will be putting together a list of trees to be planted, determining where the trees will be planted and getting the needed volunteers.  There will be a tree planting event in the fall with demonstrations, teaching sessions and then the planting of the trees in the community.

The National Weather Service rated the June, 2014 tornado as an EF-2 with winds reaching 127 mph.
