35 Years Ago: Blue Oyster Cult Release ‘Some Enchanted Evening’

Blue Oyster Cult released their second live album, the aptly named ‘Some Enchanted Evening,’ in September 1978 and proceeded to rack up the biggest record sales of their storied career. Not bad for a band that had spent much of their career to that point intentionally cloaking themselves in mystery while challenging listeners with oftentimes obscure or downright controversial lyrics.

Blue Oyster Cult Founder Allen Lanier Dead at 67

Founding Blue Oyster Cult keyboardist and guitarist Allen Lanier has died at the age of 67 after being hospitalized with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, according to the band's official Facebook page. "DFTR sweet man," the post reads, in apparent reference to their hit 'Don't Fear the Reaper.' "We love you and miss you."

Blue Oyster Cult Reschedule Reunion Concert

For far too many youngsters, Blue Oyster Cult are only known as the band that was parodied on 'Saturday Night Live's' famous 'More Cowbell' sketch. But that overlooks their long career as arguably heavy metal's brainiest band, with such classics as 'Don't Fear the Reaper' and 'Godzilla to their credit.
