BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota State University wants to demolish a former Knights of Columbus hall on the north edge of the Brookings campus.

The Brookings Register reports (http://bit.ly/QR2a18) that the two-story wood-frame hall on north Medary Avenue was being used as storage space for the university but is now dilapidated.

School officials say the maintenance and utility costs now outweigh the building's usefulness.

If circumstances permit a controlled burn, SDSU plans to work with the Brookings Fire Department to provide a training opportunity by allowing fire officials to burn the facility.

The South Dakota Board of Regents will consider the request on Wednesday.
