The City of Sioux Falls has offered a solution to the Paint the Plow religious symbols spat.  The hope is that it will bring a resolution for all parties involved.

Of the 45 total plow blades owned by the City, 27 were painted and two of them display artwork of a religious nature. About ten days ago, the City of Sioux Falls received an informal complaint alleging an Establishment Clause violation for the two snowplow blades that contained religious messages.

City officials gathered a team of their best and brightest for the task.  After discussing the options with Sioux Falls city legal team, the Public Works Department and members of Mayor Mike Huether’s executive staff, a disclaimer placard will be affixed to city equipment both on the trucks and on the plow blades.

“It’s good common ground, good compromise and good common sense.”  Mayor Mike Huether also reveals that “it allows us to keep the plows this snow season.  More importantly, we want to keep this program going for years to come.”

This is the 5th year of the Paint the Plow program.
