Governor Dennis Daugaard announced that the month of May will be "Beef Month" for South Dakota. Daugaard signed the proclamation to show his support for the ranchers of the state as they are recovering from the October blizzard.

South Dakota is ranked sixth nationally in cattle production, and the number of cattle in the state outnumbers the amount of people four to one.

The tradition of "Beef Month" extends over 40 years in S.D.
