Red Hot Chili Peppers: New Songs Streaming

The next two songs from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' new series of nine singles have surfaced online and can be streamed. The two tracks -- called "Magpies" and "Victorian Machinery" -- are scheduled to come out on September 11th in digital and physical formats, just under a month after the arrival of the first two, "Strange Man" and "Long Progression." Spin described "Magpies" as "mellow and slow-paced," while "Victorian Machine" was "crunchy" and "disjointed."

The songs were all recorded during the sessions for the Chili Peppers' most recent album, I'm With You, but didn't make the final cut.

The third pair of songs arrives on October 2nd. The fourth, fifth and sixth pairs will show up on November 6th, December 4th and December 18th respectively, with the final two releases coming in early 2013.

Although the Chili Peppers always seem to end up with a wealth of new material for each album, drummer Chad Smith told us the band always ends up concentrating on the stuff it wrote last: "With us, you know, we're kind of always like, whatever we're into exactly at the time that we, like, start writing. It's always been that way. We're never 'Oh, that song from a year ago...' You know, unless it's like something really cool, and then it's always different that what it was. But yeah, we're just always trying to come up with new stuff, so usually the latest and greatest is what we use."

I'm With You is the Chili Peppers' first set of new songs since 2006's Stadium Arcadium and the first to feature guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who replaced longtime member John Frusciante in 2010.

The Peppers are currently on the road in Europe, but will come home to begin a lengthy North American road trip on September 23rd in San Diego.
