You would be hard pressed to find anyone who's ever watched a movie to honestly say they've never heard of the movie Rocky. Who hasn't heard of whole series of Rocky films?

There's been sequel after sequel that spans over decades. Rocky is considered to be one of the greatest sports films ever made

But what most people didn't know, is how the idea even came about for the movie in the first place. And even more so, who took that idea and wrote the movie.

It was the real life fight that inspired the Rocky movies. In 1975 a little-known boxer named Chuck Wepner went the distance with the world's greatest fighter, Muhammad Ali.

A young, broke actor named Sylvester Stallone watched it on TV and was so inspired by Wepner's grit, he wrote the script to Rocky, which would go on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1976.
