The Global Citizen Festival, which featured Neil Young and Crazy Horse and Foo Fighters, raised $1.3 billion in pledges to help end global poverty.

The fest took place September 29th in New York's Central Park and was broadcast online around the world. As part of the festival, a coalition of charities pledged to raise new funds over the next five years. They included:

•The U.S. Fund for UNICEF, which pledged to raise $500 million to help children across the world.
•The Half the Sky Movement, which looks to raise $167.5 million to benefit women living in extreme poverty.
•The Global Partnership for Education, which has pledged to raise $500 million to help educate five million children living in conflict.
