If you've had enough of the hustle and bustle of a seemingly 'never-slow-down' world, Meadow, South Dakota might just be the spot for you.

On the other hand, if you're cravin' a Big Mac Extra value meal, well, if you happen to be in Meadow, good luck!

Our great state is known for a lot of cool things. Mount Rushmore (of course!), "Wild Bill" Hickock (Aces and Eights), an incredible jump that Jesse James made (or didn't) and of course, the World's Only Corn Palace. Oh, and don't miss the free ice water at Wall Drug (if you don't know how to get there, just wait a minute, a road sign will be coming up shortly).

Perhaps lost in all the tourism hub-bub is a small town with a unique distinction.

OK, 'town' may be a bit of a stretch. Meadow, South Dakota isn't tracked by the U.S. Census Bureau, but hey...it does have its own Zip Code! Nestled happily up there in Perkins County in Northwest South Dakota I suppose you could say that Meadow isn't exactly on the 'beaten path.'

That doesn't mean it doesn't have beauty. Laid out in 1907, when you see the vast meadow near the original townsite, well, you'll realize why it got its name.

Yep, you can escape the rush-a-day-world in Meadow, and still have pretty much everything you need and want.

Except a Big Mac.

You see, while Meadow may not be at the top of the list of well known South Dakota sites, it does have this distinction: it's the "McFarthest" point from any McDonald's in the continental United States.

If you're wanting to chew on a Quarter Pounder with Cheese and fries, you'll have to motor about 145 miles before you see those familiar Golden Arches.

But that's OK. I'm bettin' the good folks in and around Meadow have a big 'ol grill right outside the back door, and a cooler filled with perfectly chilled long necks.

And there's no waitin' at the drive thru.
