Kings X Drummer’s Home Destroyed By Sandy
Jerry Gaskill, drummer for Kings X, has lost all his worldly possessions after the surge from Hurricane Sandy crashed into his coastal home in New Jersey. The 54-year-old and his wife Julie are safe, but have been displaced.
Ed Frost of EmmJamm Music left a note on Gaskill's Facebook page updating his friends, family and fans as to their condition. "I just spoke to Jerry and he and Julie are ok, and very optimistic of the future, despite losing every material possession to this dreadful storm," he says. "It's been one helluva journey for him this year-cheating death, marrying his soul mate, a successful tour with Kansas, the announcement of a new solo project kicking off next month, and now this...."
MetalSucks.net reports that friends and fans have once again come together to help Gaskill through a difficult time by asking for donations at GiveForward.com. Their goal is to raise $25K to help the couple get back on their feet.
In February Gaskill suffered a heart attack, and the band sold a digital download of a classic Kings X concert for a $20 donation toward his medical bills. He was able to leave the hospital one month later after physical therapy, and the band resumed touring this summer.
Gaskill wasn't the only classic rocker affected by Sandy. Sammy Hagar's Atlantic City bar was leveled by the storm. The Beach Bar & Grill is only open May through Labor Day, so fortunately for him no business will be lost before he can rebuild.
