It’s well-known that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is an avid Bruce Springsteen fan. In 2010 he tried to get his home state’s most famous rocker to play at his inaugural ball, but wound up getting a tribute band instead. Most recently, he asked Springsteen to perform at a new casino in Atlantic City.

Fresh off his keynote speech at last week’s Republican National Convention, where he mentioned listening to ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ while in high school, Christie appeared on NBC’s ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,’ where the two discussed his musical obsession.

Christie said that he attended his 130th Springsteen show in Philadelphia on Monday night, with his first coming in 1975 at Seton Hall University when he was 13. In the modern tradition of political fact-checking, we can state that Springsteen performed at the school on Dec. 11 of that year.

Fallon then asked Christie if he wanted to sing a little bit of ‘Thunder Road.’ Despite the seeming spontaneity of the question, Fallon happened to have a couple of Shure SM-58 microphones right next to him, and the two knew exactly what part of the song to start singing when the Roots kicked in.

The governor acquitted himself fairly well, and Fallon’s harmonies were spot-on. Still, we’ll stick with Fallon and the Boss singing ‘Sexy and I Know It.’
