It's the first known girls tackle football league in America and it has the blessing of the NFL.

It began in Utah and is quickly rising in popularity. Fifth and 6th grade girls suit up and hit the field for four quarters, win - or - lose - and move on to the next week, even in the age of heightened concussion awareness.

Tackle football is the most popular sport. Boys want to play it and it's America's passion. Regardless of my gender, that's what I wanted to do. I wanted to be like Troy Aikman." - Sam Rapoport - director of development for USA Football.

The inspiration for the first Girls Tackle Football League came from Sam Gordon, 12,  the Utah girl wonder who became a video sensation in 2012 when her father published a video of her outrunning boys on a football field.

Locally, girls are suiting up in the Siouxland Youth Football League. My son's team, the Spartans, played the Broncos last weekend - with a hard-hitting female on the roster.

Even NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has been "extremely supportive" of the girls football league.

The Girls Tackle Football League kicked off its season on Saturday and the highlights from the games are amazing! Go get 'em, girls.
