South Dakota's state parks will begin taking reservations for Memorial Day weekend beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Feb. 21. A three night stay is required for the busy holiday weekend, with the exception of Custer State Park in the Black Hills.

South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks says you can make reservations up to 90 days out - with some exceptions. That means now is the time to make reservations for early spring camping in late April and early May.

Camping and hiking as a family activity continues to grow in popularity, and South Dakota offers scenic and comfortable campsites throughout the state. From the pines of the Black Hills, to the the Glacial Lakes in the northeast and everywhere in between, your family's perfect weekend or week-long getaway is waiting for you.

Besides, I found it's quite enjoyable if you can find a spot without wi-fi and the constant chirping of the kids' tablets and phones.
