There's a buck back there.  Laying in the corner of that shed back there.

That's what my son said after I had picked him up.

Ok, this post is going to be rather cryptic.  I'm going to be vague to protect the innocent. Or at least protect this 'man on the run.'

My son and I had been talking the other day about the rather 'high number of deer' that seem to be living inside the city limits in Sioux Falls.  There are a lot!  Southeastern Avenue seems to be home for quite a few. Over by the soccer fields along I-229 by Cliff Avenue, well, we saw about 8 tonight.

But this one, the one that we saw, or I should say he saw was a pretty good sized buck.  I'd say he was a 3 1/2 or 4 1/2 year old deer.  Tall racked, not to wide-slightly squished on his right side.  That means not real symmetrical.   There he was, not 35 yards from the shoulder of the road...watching.  Watching people drive by.  People in a hurry to get home.  Watching trucks and cars.  Watching people, going about their business.

It's interesting.  Here's this wild animal, who has adjusted enough to live within the cities limits, yet is wild enough to have survived being a deer.  The traffic. The breeding season...it's hard to imagine.

Tomorrow I hope to get a picture.  If I do, I'll edit it to the point where you wont be able to tell where he is.  I wouldn't want to give him up.  Where he's at.  Tomorrow morning I suspect he'll be back to his spot.  Watching.
