Gregg Allman has announced a half-dozen solo dates for late September and October. Allman and his band will kick things off over two nights, September 21st and 22nd in Nashville at Riverfront Park and eventually wind things down on October 13th in Kure Beach, North Carolina.

Although the Allman Brothers Band remains an ongoing concern, we asked Allman if these days he thinks of his solo career as his main creative outlet: "I don't consider myself a solo artist at all. No, I play with the Allman Brothers and I've been doin' it all my life, and I happen to have a band on the side."

Allman told us that he's always found the safe haven of a recording studio to be a conduit to working up new original material and that the recent sessions for Low Country Blues found him writing songs for it's prospective followup: "It seems like for some reason every time you do a record, it somehow gets your writing juices flowing, y'know? And I guess it's 'cause you're in the studio, you're creatin', and that kind of stuff starts to come forward, y'know?"

The Allman Brothers Band will next perform on August 31st in Lincoln, Nebraska at The Bluesmasters Concert at Haymarket Park.
