Hey do you know there's an election coming up? Of course you do, you have a TV. Even if you just want to see what the weather will be like this weekend you've seen the political ads. So, this seems like a good time to round-up some of the info we South Dakota voters need to know.

Election day is Tuesday, November 4, 2014.

The last day to register to vote in this election is Monday, October 20, 2014.

To register to vote in South Dakota it's super easy. Fill out this short form and get it your County Auditor.

You may also register to vote at:

  • City finance office
  • Driver's license station
  • Public assistance agencies providing food stamps, TANF or WIC
  • Department of Human Services offices which provide assistance to the disabled
  • Military recruitment offices

In order to register you must:

  • Be a United States citizen
  • Reside in South Dakota
  • Be at least 18 years old on or before the next election
  • Not currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction which included imprisonment, served or suspended, in an adult penitentiary system
  • Not be judged mentally incompetent by a court of law
This year we are choosing a Governor, Senator and a Representative to the House of Representatives. Also, there are races for several statewide offices, a constitutional amendment and two initiated measures on the ballot.
