Running a marathon isn't easy. Running it at 18,000 feet is a daunting task that a father and son from Flandreau are about to do in two weeks. 54-year old Bruce Allen is about to travel 7,000 miles to Kathmandu, Nepal to run in the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon on May 29th.

According to the Brookings Register, Allen says:

"It will be an eye-opening trip, I'm pretty excited about it, It will be the pinnacle of the who marathon career. "

The course of just over 26 miles long as the trail covers over rough mountain terrain that may have snow and ice covering it. Most of the marathon is s basically downhill, but there are two steep uphill sections. It actually takes the participants 14 days to reach the reach the starting point.

Last year the event has 146 entries for the race.
