Sioux Falls baseball fans are welcoming back an old friend.  The Pheasants are changing their name back to the Canaries.

A previous ownership group abandoned the Canaries moniker before the 2010 season, saying the Pheasants represented a tougher, more imposing mascot.

But when ownership changed again last May, the new group says it was inundated with calls from fans to restore the Canaries name, which has been a part of the Sioux Falls baseball landscape since 1902.

ESPN 99.1's Jeff Harkness spoke with Canaries Co-Owner Tom Garrity, who says, despite an attendance increase of more than 70% last season, the changes was needed.

The Canaries also unveiled images of their new uniforms at Tuesday's press conference.
