I grew up on the North End of Sioux Falls, one in a long line of Lalleys who still hold ground around Terrace Park. I graduated from O'Gorman High School and the University of South Dakota. Following college, I was fortunate to spend more than two decades in journalism in South Dakota and Iowa. I love the give and take of good civic discourse, history and politics. To gain some sort of perspective on the world, I try to read books, primarily fiction for true perspective. My musical tastes were formed primarily obscure -- to most people -- pop and punk music from the '80s and '90s, though in truth any sort of jangly, smart pop music can get my attention.

Sanford’s Imagenetics is an Impressive Building with an Ambitious Future
I was inside the new Sanford Imagenetics building today for a quick tour. It's a beautiful and bright facility with some massive windows on the south side. There's a cool interactive panel that scans your face and records your voice to create a three-dimensional model demonstrating how genetics makes us unique with a massive light sculpture.
One Time, Riding Home On the Bike Trail
I see a lot of wildlife while riding on the bike trail system through the Sioux Falls Greenway. The best time is at dusk and dawn, when the critters are most active.

Premier Center Settlement Reveals Mayor’s Struggle with Public Life and Truth [OPINION]
We found out last week that Mayor Mike Huether lied to us. That may seem a harsh assessment but I’m not sure how else to read the settlement the city was forced to release over the warped and bubbling silver siding at the Sanford Premier Center.
Greg Jamison Making Mayoral Bid Official on Monday
Calling it the worst kept secret in Sioux Falls does a disservice to real secrets. Greg Jamison plans to announce his formal bid for Sioux Falls Mayor at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Holiday Inn City Center. Nobody surrounding Jamison -- currently a state legislator -- has made any bones about the fact that he's running.
